Book Blogger Hop

Jennifer from Crazy for Books asks for this week's Book Blogger Hop question:

"What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"

Oh gosh... This is a hard one. I feel like a lot of books that I read in the beginning of this school year were more than a little disappointing and some of them I did not enjoy reading whatsoever. I would have to say that "Halo" by Alexandra Adornetto and "Raised by Wolves" by Jennifer Lynn Barnes were two of the biggest let-downs I have read recently. Both had beautiful covers that I was immediately attracted to, the plotlines of each sound amazing, they both had pretty good reviews (well more so "Raised by Wolves" than "Halo"), and they both had so much potential, but they did not live up to that potential whatsoever. I seriously struggled to finish "Raised by Wolves", I wasn't too concerned if I didn't finish it because I hadn't bought a copy of the book, I had just lent it from the library, but "Halo"? Well, I bought that book (unfortunately) and I wasn't not going to finish it- I spent good hard earned money on it! And you know what? I didn't like "Clockwork Angel" by Cassie Clare as much as I would have liked to. Cassie's other series "Mortal Instruments" is my favourite series of all time, and so maybe I was trying to compare the series too much, but "CA" just didn't really do it for me. I found the characters in both series to be pretty much the same, save for the name... I mean, aren't Will and Jace pretty much the same, but Will is all dark haired and Jace is all golden?

  1. I'm sad you didn't like Raised by Wolves because I loved that one! Halo I've yet to read, and I've actually put off because I'm seeing more and more bad reviews for it and it's making me think it really wouldn't work for me either. And there are many others I'd happily read instead lol.

  2. I know! I saw on your blog that you loved "Raised by Wolves" and I tried really, really hard to like it, but yeah, for some reason I just couldn't wrap my head around it... :/

  3. I wasn't the biggest fan of Clockwork Angel either...I felt it was too similar to TMI. I also really really disliked The Lonely Hearts Club.

    Happy Friday, Avery!

  4. I haven't read either WOLVES or HALO yet. I'm looking forward to both, though - we'll see what I think. I definitely agree with you on CA, though. I liked it, but MI is so, so much better.

Glad to have found you via the Hop!

  6. @Meliisa (Books and Things), Oh no! It isn't the worst book I have read by any means, its just I think that it wasn't what I was expecting at all... It is still a gazillion times better than "Halo" and "Raised by Wolves", it just isn't as good as "MI".

  7. Oh no! I have that one on my bday/xmas list! Will still give it a try though since I know my mom already bought it!

I had a read like that too. It was Spider's Bite. I really wanted to like it but ended up not.

    Here's my hop post

    Happy Friday!

  8. I haven't read any of Cassandra Claire's novels yet, so I expect I won't have the trouble long-term fans seem to have with Clockwork Angel. I'm not a fan of the angel books that are in vogue at the moment. I've read a couple but they didn't encourage me to continue with the genre. My reviews tend to contain both negative and positive, even if I liked the book overall, but I feel a bit bad about reviews where my dislikes outweighed the likes. Since introducing my five star rating to the blog I've only rated one book less than 3* and that was Becca Fitzpatrick's Crescendo.

  9. A lot of people have said Halo, I haven't read it yet, but it is on my list. Although it is getting pushed further down the list now. I'm a new follower! My hop is at Coffee Table Press

  10. Hi! New follower here.
Yeah, I've read some not so great reviews on both Halo and Raised by Wolves. So I think I'll pass.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! I really appreciate it!

Though I appreciate awards I have decided to make my blog an "award-free zone". Unfortunately I do not have the time to hold up my end of award-giving. But again, I appreciate you thinking of me!
